LabCyte CORNEA-MODEL

LabCyte CORNEA-MODELLabCyte CORNEA-MODEL is a reconstructed human corneal epithelial tissue produced using normal human corneal epithelial cells.

So far, eye irritancy of chemical substances, cosmetic products, and household products has been evaluated by the Draize test using rabbits. The Draize test system is mainly based on the scoring of observed macroscopic changes in the rabbit cornea, conjunctiva, and iris. However, it is often criticized for ethical animal welfare, and there is a strong need for an in vitro evaluation method that can be used to assess eye-irritancy. To meet these needs, there have been increasing expectations for the development of an eye irritation testing protocol using corneal epithelial tissue. We have employed tissue engineering techniques, and furthered the development of this product in order to meet such demands and concepts.

The LabCyte CORNEA-MODEL, a reconstructed human corneal epithelial model, reproduces many of the characteristics of the normal human corneal tissue. Therefore, it provides morphologically relevant means to assess eye irritation, percutaneous absorption, and other ocular-related processes as an alternative to animal testing.

LabCyte CORNEA-MODELThe human multilayered corneal epithelium is reconstructed inside each culture insert. LabCyte CORNEA-MODEL enables the prediction of the eye irritation potential of chemicals and other products, as well as the analysis of protein expression in corneal epithelial cells. LabCyte CORNEA-MODEL is a reliable product with low lot-to-lot variability that was developed based on the technology applied in the development of the LabCyte EPI-MODEL.

Storage and Expiration Date

Store the unopened 3-dimensional cultured human cornea epithelial model at room temperature. The expiration date is indicated on the label of the aluminum package.
For better reproducibility of results, it is recommended to keep the storage period prior product use the same across experiments.

It is recommended that all culture inserts are used once the package is opened. Do not store this product in the provided assay medium, or in a CO2 incubator (37˚C, 5-10% CO2), as cellular metabolism is activated under these conditions.

The assay medium should be stored in a refrigerator (2-8˚C). The expiration date of the medium is indicated on the label of the bottle.
