Our company's business includes the "Custom Development & Manufacturing Business". In the pharmaceutical field, there are CROs (contract research organizations) and CMOs (contract manufacturing organizations), but in recent years, products that require complex product development, such as antibody drugs, are referred to as CDMOs (contract development and manufacturing organizations), which refer to businesses that undertake the entire process from development to production. Since development elements are essential for production, the premise is to develop products with improved manufacturability. For this reason, a name that integrates development and production is used.

Know-how accumulated in Regenerative Medicine CDMO

Up until now, we have been promoting the CDMO business for regenerative medical products. We have accepted technological seeds from academic professors and venture companies and have been "creating regenerative medical products" to bring them to market as regenerative medical products. Unlike conventional small molecule compounds, cell-based products are not easily judged as being "the same thing." Plus, because the products are living, even small differences in how they are manufactured, or the materials used can make a big difference in the final product. The key is how to produce them stably and evaluate them correctly. Furthermore, there are many things you only realize after you start providing the service. It is also important to decide the product specifications, including these things, from the beginning. To date, we have provided cell-based products to more than 3,000 patients. We believe that this technology and know-how will be of great help in advancing our CDMO business.

Helping Regenerative Medicine using iPS cells to put into practice

The other day, we introduced our investment in VCCT (CEO: Ms. Masayo Takahashi). We also mentioned that we will help with "product creation" to put Professor Takahashi's established technology into practice in society. Regenerative medicine using iPS cells is an amazing technology originating from Japan. We hope that the technology we have cultivated thus far can contribute even a little to the development of regenerative medicine in Japan.
